2017 has been a crazy year.
but, hey, we got some pretty great books out of it!
i want to share some of my favorite books (briefly) that i read in 2017, counting down from 5.
5) all the bright places by jennifer niven! this book started with such a powerful beginning and the characters had me emotionally attached. there needs to be more stories like this, centering around mental health and adventure, and the end left me on the verge of tears.
4) history is all you left me by my guy, adam silvera! i honestly love this man's writing style and his stories are so powerful. this book is about the LGBTQ+ community and how to handle grief in a way that was eye-opening. the characters are so lovable and i need another book about them!
3) secrets for the mad by dodie, a singer/songwriter/youtuber that i adore. her writing is so intriguing and makes me stop and think about it all. her depersonalization makes her writing even better and her photos bring it to life.
2) renegades, which i just finished yesterday, by the queen, marissa meyer. this book was so refreshing because it's all about superheroes and choosing a side, kind of like al lot of us are forced to do in REAL life (ew, reality). the characters had me in love and i need the next book!
1) the hate u give by angie thomas. holy moly. this book was literally life changing. it was so raw and horrifying because it's reflecting of life today. the prejudice minors face needs to be handled the way that Starr, main character and black-girl-magic queen, does in this book.
hoping for many more amazing books to come in 2018! happy new year's eve!! -a
